WHY ELOPE IN SCOTLAND?

  • Scotland is the only place in the UK where you can legally marry close to anywhere, anytime, no matter your beliefs, faith, sexual orientation or race, so long as you have a legal officiant and two witnesses present at your elopement ceremony.

  • Scotland is beautiful and dramatic all year round, no matter the weather. It's one of the windiest countries in Europe, and the mainly wet climate is a big part of what makes Scotland so magical.

  • A traditional wedding is just too much for you financially, or you do not want family drama on the elopement day to marry your love.

  • You do not want all the stress of planning a big wedding day

  • Scotland is full of history and rich heritage. There are hundreds of castles and whiskey distilleries, world-class salmon fishing, beautiful architecture in the cities, and many more places to visit and activities to do during your stay.

  • The Scottish Highlands is one of the most remote locations in Europe, and it has a unique landscape. Super vulcanos formed some of Europe's oldest mountains and glens (valleys), and glacial movements after the ice age created the final rugged landscapes of the North-West of Scotland. The diverse scenery on the Isle of Skye, the dramatic landscapes of Glen Coe, the endless pine forest in the Cairngorms National Park, and the deciduous woods of the Trossachs National Park will take your breath away.

DECIDE WHEN TO ELOPE IN SCOTLAND

The Scottish Highlands is known for sometimes having very unproductive, dramatic weather, regardless of the season! My advice is to embrace the weather. Don't be afraid to elope on a weekday, on special dates like 5/5/25, 25/5/25, 13/02/26 or on your anniversary - remember, whenever you elope, it will be one of the perfect days of your lifetime.

I wrote a blog post about the best time to visit and elope in Scotland - you can read it here.

I recommend first contacting elopement photographers once you know when you want to elope in Scotland.

After you contact me, we'll have an online call on Zoom, WhatsApp or Skype (yes, I still use Skype sometimes) to get to know each other, see if we are a good fit to work with and I'll let you know my elopement workflow. As a Scotland elopement planning expert and photographer, I can help you through the planning process with my step-by-step process and make sure you have a fantastic stress-free elopement experience in Scotland.

DECIDE ON YOUR ELOPEMENT LOCATION

Elopement photography is the subject matter to get those moody, dramatic elopement photographs you are looking for - so eloping in the right place at the right time is crucial.

Having your elopement ceremony in front of the Three Sisters in Glen Coe is magical, and you will never forget those precious moments. Signing your marriage schedule at the breathtaking Quiraing on the Misty Isle is out of this world, but who remembers the Registrar's office or hotel reception at a traditional wedding?

Believe me, the location has the most significant impact on your elopement photos except you.

I'll help you narrow down locations by sending you a questionnaire and my complete elopement guide so we can find out what would best suit the two of you. Then, I will create your personalised location recommendations just for you. Choosing a perfect elopement ceremony location is essential to booking your accommodation nearby with my help.

BOOK YOUR OTHER ELOPEMENT VENDORS

When planning your elopement, you will be surprised by how few vendors require your elopement day.

I can help you with local vendor recommendations for the best ones in your elopement location. Contact and book your elopement vendors, such as a celebrant, hairdresser, makeup artist, or florist. I have my short list of trusted suppliers I worked with before, and I'll share it with you.

To make your wedding ceremony legal, the essential vendor that you officially need is a humanist or celebrant. In Scotland, this can be either a religious or a belief celebrant. I have a list of celebrants I work with regularly who are all conducting a fantastic elopement ceremony that reflects your needs. If you book your suppliers, I recommend finding your perfect humanist on the following websites - Humanist Association ScotlandHumanist Society Scotland

Look at these beautiful flower creations from my recommended florists, which I captured on film. Florals like bouquets, flower crowns, and buttonholes are beautiful details of your elopement day, and I highly recommend booking a florist for your Scotland elopement day.

BOOK YOUR ACCOMMODATION

I recommend booking your accommodation in advance and staying within a 30-minute drive of your elopement ceremony location.

Scotland offers a wide variety of accommodations, from self-gathering AirBnBs to luxurious castle hotels and everything in between.

Don't be shy - choose your accommodation somewhere unique. It will be where you get ready, and I will capture those intimate moments.

I'm always happy to recommend or find your perfect stay for your fantastic elopement experience in Scotland.

If you like to hunt for accommodations, use the following resources:

Booking.com - for basic B&B, self-catering, or traditional hotel stays

AirBnB - for more advanced to extraordinary accommodations, you can find here
CoolStays - for those unique places to stay

COMPLETE YOUR PAPERWORK & APPLY FOR YOUR MARRIAGE VISITOR VISA ...

... if you want to get legally married in Scotland.

The Marriage Schedule is granted by the Registrar local to your wedding location and can be collected in person. You can find more information and download a Marriage Notice form here.

People from outside the European Economic Area can also marry in Scotland, but they likely need to apply for a marriage visitor visa. You will need to complete a lot of paperwork and consult with your celebrant. Please check further information and apply for a marriage visitor visa here.

All you need to legally marry in Scotland is a marriage schedule, a celebrant, and two witnesses. In case you do not have witnesses, I can be your witness and not only the photographer of your intimate elopements. For a second witness, I can bring my partner with me, or you can ask your celebrant if they can provide one for you.

An interesting statistic: Only 28% of my overseas eloping couples decide to have a legal ceremony in Scotland, and the other 72% have a symbolic ceremony without any fuss and paperwork. They want to enjoy their elopement day fully without stressing about paperwork, witnesses, and all, and they usually sign the legal documents in their home country, like the USA.

FINALISE THE FINE DETAILS AND YOUR TIMELINE WITH YOUR ELOPEMENT PHOTOGRAPHER

After all your paperwork is sorted and we are at the end of the planning stage, I will create your detailed elopement timeline for you. Your timeline should be tailored to reflect your needs and wishes, making sure it is as unique as you are.

I like to meet up on an online call 6 weeks before your elopement to give you travel tips, and discuss if you still have any questions about your travels and elopement in Scotland.

The most important aspect of my work is your elopement experience and satisfaction. I always work individually with couples on their elopement planning, photography, and hand-editing their photos to ensure they get the best unique experience ever and want to return to Scotland.

Also, it is essential that you feel you are in safe hands with me and should not worry about anything on your elopement day and visit to Scotland.

IT’S TIME TO TRAVEL TO SCOTLAND

Four weeks before your travel to Scotland, I'll email you everything you need to know about what to bring, what to take, and how to get to your elopement location.

You can travel to Scotland by plane to Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness International Airport. Renting a car is a must, as public transport is poor in Scotland's Highlands and Islands area.
After you arrive in Scotland and if you have a legal ceremony, you need to collect your marriage schedule from the local Registrar's office - make sure you collect it in person 7 days before your elopement day.

Elope in Scotland!

Here we go - your elopement day in Scotland has arrived.

Enjoy your magical Scottish elopement fully and in the way you want.

Maybe not everything will go as planned, as Mother Nature sometimes dramatically changes the weather in Scotland, but otherwise, you will be in good hands, and I can promise a stress-free way to celebrate your love and enjoy what the Scottish Highlands has to offer.
If you legally married in Scotland, then, you must hand in your signed elopement Marriage Schedule to the local Registrar office no later than 3 days after your ceremony; after that, you will be legally a happy married couple.
